Centre d'hist. et d'archéo. de la Métabetchouane (cham)
The Métabetchouane History and Archaeology Centre recounts history at the mouth of the Métabetchouane River, site of human contact from the Amerindian era until today. A reconstruction of the Hudson Bay Company trading post, originally established around 1840, lets you live the trade activity of the period. An archaeological site brings to light the latest discoveries from prehistoric times. The thematic exhibit entitled Suivez les traces des raquettes (Follow the Snowshoe Tracks) features a collection of 40 pairs of snowshoes by Mr. Bill Mackowski, giving visitors a chance to appreciate the craftsmanship of the 11 Amerindian nations of Quebec. The handwork of Ms. Paulette Bergeron will be displayed in Nuances et couleurs. Fils de soie, fils de lin (Hues and Colours. Silk Threads, Linen Threads), an exhibit embroidered by Ms. Géraldine Truchon.
On the site, visitors will find a powder magazine listed as a historical monument dedicated to Jean de Quen, first “White man” in the Lake Saint-Jean area, and a chapel recalling the presence of the different religious communities.
